Uplifting Children and
Strengthening Families

We provide education, nutrition, accomodation and more — helping them rise above poverty.

In Uganda, the history of the country is marked by economic struggle, conflict, and geographic difficulty, making it hard for every child to receive proper health care, education, and economic opportunity. Lacking proper infrastructure throughout so many remote villages in Uganda, the children who live here do not even know about such basic human needs as proper hygiene, a balanced diet, adequate clothing and shelter, and quality education. This situation was compounded during the time of the HIV epidemic when parents were killed, leaving many orphaned children as well as single-parent homes where the remaining parent could hardly support themselves, let alone any children left without a mother or father.

Coming from just such a remote village and growing up during the HIV epidemic and wartime, Ibrahim Bazira saw the hardships placed upon these children, who are really suffering, and their single parents firsthand. His own family was poor and did not have much, but he always gave whatever extra he could afford to the needy children and old widows of his and surrounding villages. After a long period of struggle for the children while living in a local camp, Ibrahim Bazira decided he should bring the orphans from surrounding villages together so that he could provide more comprehensive care for them. It became Ibrahim’s lifelong passion and dream to find a home for these children so he could provide them with real education, shelter, and healthcare for their bright future and the bright future of children in Jinja and eastern Uganda. It was this vision of compassion and intelligence that led Ibrahim Bazira to join hands with Mirembe Abigail and other individuals to open a safe and loving place for the Abigail Children Ministry.

Generating income for the Abigail Children Ministry is a big challenge for Bazira Ibrahim and Mirembe Abigail. As time went on, it became incredibly difficult for them to provide enough food to feed the children, and they were forced to start exchanging their personal property, like clothes, chairs, tables, etc., for food to feed the children at the orphanage home. They have also been burning charcoal in the forest to generate money for feeding the children and to pay for their education, medication, and clothing.

Ibrahim Bazira is an intelligent young man with a big heart for helping people, and he has achieved a great deal to date. However, Abigail Children Ministry needs urgent support in the form of monetary donations and funding, training for staff and volunteers, and guidance in strategic planning for the organization so that it continues growing in a healthy and sustainable way.
